Anchorage, Alaska—The Alaska Republican Party today applauded
the Alaska Democratic Party for their decision to withdraw support for State
Senate District P candidate Janet Reiser to instead support a conservative.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, chaired by State
Senator Johnny Ellis, sent a mailer to Eagle River residents late this week
directing them to support a candidate other than Democrat Janet Reiser. The
mailer implored the recipients to vote for the “conservative” candidate who is
“pro military,” ”pro oil,” and “pro capitalism.”

 “I have seen a lot
of bold actions this election cycle, but the Democrats realizing and openly
acknowledging there is a better candidate than the one they are placing on the
ballot is truly unique,” said Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich.
“Janet Reiser has embarrassed herself in business and is pretending to espouse
conservative values.  I commend Senator
Ellis and Chairwoman Patti Higgins for recognizing the flaws of Janet Reiser
and taking steps to support an alternative candidate. This shows there is
character within the Alaska Democratic Party.”

Other Republican leaders joined Ruedrich and the Alaska
Democratic Party in supporting candidates other than Janet Reiser.  “I was surprised to see Democrats abandon
Reiser, but I agree there is a better candidate in this race,” said Anchorage
Mayor Dan Sullivan. “This is why I am enthusiastically supporting Cathy
Giessel.”

“Cathy Giessel is exactly the kind of
responsible Republican voice that we need in Juneau during these challenging
times,” added Sean Parnell. “She will fight with me to bring new investment to
our state and create jobs.”

Anchorage, Alaska—The Alaska Republican Party last night won a clear and decisive victory over Democrats in Alaska’s federal, gubernatorial, and state legislative elections.  This victory represents a clear message from voters that Republican values are Alaska’s values.

In the highest profile race, Republican Lisa Murkowski appears to be ahead of her opponents Joe Miller and Scott McAdams.

“The Alaska Republican Party congratulates Lisa on her strong showing, but we cannot yet declare her the winner,” said Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich.  “The role of the Party now is to ensure the remaining ballots are counted in a manner consistent with state law.  To that end we will be closely monitoring the ballot count process.  As long as the counting process is done in a fair, open, and legal manner, we stand ready to embrace whichever Republican the votes show Alaskans have chosen to represent them.”

In other races Alaskans chose to fight the Obama Administration’s war on Alaska’s resources by re-electing Republicans Governor Sean Parnell and Congressman Don Young.

State legislative races also broke for Republicans.   Republicans picked up at least 2 seats in the State House and held on to Senator Con Bunde’s Senate seat.  First time legislative candidates Cathy Giessel, Lance Pruitt, Mia Costello, Eric Feige, Alan Dick, Steve Thompson, and Dan Saddler all won their races over well funded Democratic candidates. 

“I am thrilled to see so many first time candidates of ours be successful,” said Ruedrich.  “The Republican Party now has an impressive group of new leaders participating in government.  We expect many of them to grow in office and become attractive candidates for higher office in coming years.  This is very exciting for us.”

Anchorage, Alaska-The Alaska Republican Party today joined a lawsuit against the State of Alaska in order to stop the inappropriate providing of write-in candidate lists in voting areas.

The proposal by the Division of Elections to provide lists of write-in candidates in voting areas represents a considerable change in standard election procedures in the middle of many highly contested statewide and local races.  Such changes should be made in an open and deliberative legislative process, not by last minute decrees from government administrators. 

Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich said, “During this election every candidate and political party has been operating under one set of rules laid down by Alaska law.  To now change those rules midstream is inherently unfair to all concerned.  This hasty decision both threatens the integrity of the election process and the legitimacy of every candidate elected.  This is a flawed decision and we will fight it to the fullest extent allowed within the law.”     

Kenneth Kirk, the Republican Party’s lawyer, added “Regardless of the actual motivation, making this kind of change for the first time ever, when there is a powerful candidate running a write-in campaign, will raise suspicions that political skullduggery is involved. In order to protect the integrity of the election system, the rules have to be carefully followed.” He noted that the proposal to hand out lists of write-in candidates violates several statutes and regulations, including Alaska Statute 15.15.160 which says that during the hours that the polls are open, election officials may not even discuss any political candidate or issue.

Today the Alaska Republican Party announced the hiring of Taylor Bickford as Victory Director of the ARP 2010 Victory Program.

"Taylor showed a real understanding of Alaska's unique brand of politics and people while steering Bill Walker's primary campaign," said Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich.  "We are excited to have his skills now working for our entire slate of candidates."

The Victory Program is the Republican Party's Voter Identification and Get-Out-The-Vote effort.  These efforts assist all Republican candidates to organize and mobilize voters statewide to ensure conservative values are represented by the winning candidates on election day.   

Taylor was born in Juneau and graduated from West High School in Anchorage.  He holds a bachelors degree in political science from West Virginia University and is a graduate of the Republican National Committee's Campaign Management College.  He is an experienced political professional with proven success in both Alaska and the lower-48.  Taylor managed the Bill Walker for Governor Primary Campaign.  He served as the Republican National Committee's Election Day Operations Director for Nevada in the 2008 presidential cycle and as political director to US Representative Ken Calvert in California's 44th Congressional District in 2009.

Anchorage, Alaska – Today Senator Lisa Murkowski announced she would re-enter Alaska’s US Senate race as a write in candidate.  Regardless of her decision the Alaska Republican Party stands firm behind our elected Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller.

 “The Alaska Republican Party has been respectful of Senator Murkowski’s service and tried to give her a moment of pause with which she could come to the right decision,” said Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich.  “I am disappointed the Senator has decided not to respect the will of Alaska’s Republican Primary voters.  The 2010 Republican Primary turnout of 110,688 set a new Republican turnout record.  I was hoping Senator Murkowski would recognize this fact and acknowledge this election was not an anomaly, misunderstanding, or mistake, but rather the definitive decision of a large plurality of Alaska primary voters.  That decision deserves her respect.”

“I want to make perfectly clear to Senator Murkowski and all of Alaska’s Republicans that she will receive no support of any kind from the Alaska Republican Party,” Ruedrich went on to say.  “Lisa has chosen to run against the Republican Party and its primary voters.  We will treat her candidacy as we would anyone who chooses to oppose our party’s nominees.”
